There are singers who perform songs and singers who live inside them. On Belashuru, Kabir Suman clearly belongs in the second group. Jisshu Sengupta, Solanki Roy are at the heart of Belashuru, and Belashuru captures their dynamic at its most compelling.

Released in 2022, it arrived at a time when Bengali music needed exactly this kind of sincerity. There is no right time to listen to Belashuru. There is only the moment you press play and realise it was the right choice.

The concision of Belashuru — just 2:58 — is part of what makes it work. There is nothing here that should not be. It is, at the end of it, a very good song — and sometimes that is the only explanation that matters.
